Mycoplasma Elimination Reagent Plus, 100X, 10 × 1 mL
A three-antibiotic mycoplasma elimination reagent (quinolone, tetracycline and macrolide) at 100X, for treating contaminated cell cultures. The 10 × 1 mL pack treats about 1 L of medium.
How it works
Mycoplasma have no cell wall, so common antibiotics such as penicillin do not work against them. This reagent combines three classes that do: a quinolone, which blocks bacterial DNA replication, and a tetracycline and a macrolide, which each block bacterial protein synthesis in a different way. Using them together clears contamination in a shorter time than a single agent, with a higher toxicity to watch for.
Key features
- Quinolone, tetracycline and macrolide combination
- 100X, 10 × 1 mL, treats about 1 L of medium
- Clears in 5 to 7 days
- Higher toxicity noted, so watch your cells during treatment
How to use
- Add the reagent to culture medium at 1:100, which is 1 mL per 100 mL.
- Culture the cells in the treated medium for 5 to 7 days, changing medium as your protocol directs.
- Return to normal medium and re-test the culture for mycoplasma.
