Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), WST-8 Cell Viability and Proliferation Assay
A single-reagent WST-8 kit for measuring cell viability, proliferation and cytotoxicity in a 96-well microplate format. It is supplied ready to use in two sizes: 1 mL (100 tests) and 5 mL (500 tests).
How it works
WST-8 is a water-soluble tetrazolium salt. Dehydrogenases in living cells reduce it to an orange formazan dye that dissolves in the culture medium, so the absorbance of the well rises in step with the number of viable cells. Because the dye stays in solution, there is no crystal-dissolving step as there is with MTT.
Key features
- Single reagent, no premixing of components
- WST-8 colorimetric method, read by absorbance in a microplate reader
- Phenol red and serum in the medium have no significant effect on the measurement
- 1 mL covers 100 tests; 5 mL covers 500 tests
- Store at 2-8 °C and keep away from light
How to use
- Seed 100 µL of cell suspension per well in a 96-well plate.
- Treat the cells as your experiment requires, and include blank wells (medium and reagent, no cells) and untreated control wells.
- Add the reagent, incubate, and read the absorbance.
- Calculate viability: [A (dosed) - A (blank)] / [A (untreated) - A (blank)] x 100.
